Fashion-Able Haiti: "We are working in creating sustainable jobs"
Campaign by the Embassy of Haiti in Italy
In partnership with City of Rome
Media Partner DModa Magazine
A laudable initiative under the sign of fashion, solidarity and work ideated by the Haiti Embassy in Italy in partnership with the City of Rome and support of brands as Stella Jean and the online magazine DModa as media partner, launching the project "Fashion-Able Haiti", a social campaign, made by the art-director Romina Toscano and photographer Marco D' Amico, to help the economy of Haiti – one year after the earthquake in Port-au-Prince -, telling about the different meanings of spiritualism, artisanal and artistic Haiti legacy in order to make sensitive the Italian fashion houses and to invest part of manufacture production for the American market in Haiti by Hope Bill – exemption taxes agreement between USA and Haiti – , giving a new rush to the economy. Now the only help given to the Haiti people is just the assistance. The further step is to give people a means to look at future, changing by work.
"Haiti is the island of mysticism and painting (Malraux) and it is through painting, that this great country tells its story, its stories. And it is these stories that these clothes narrate and it is this gift that I disseminate and imprint on my fabrics. Making the history of Haiti and the art naif a wearable art, which despite its "naif" denomination has a profound theoretical corpus. It is a cheerful art even when it expresses a drama, that with simple strokes and generous colors, does not allow mystifying intermediaries".
